I had the MOST amazing time at the RWA National Conference in NYC. It was held at the Marriott Marquis in the heart of Times Square and after being there for four days, it’s clear why people refer to it as the “center of the world”. I was running non-stop from 6am-Midnight the entire conference.
I started every morning with the Romance Fit Club workouts and then went straight on through with meetings, panels, and parties.
Not only did I get to meet new readers at the big Literacy Autographing, but I also got to fan-girl all week. Lori Handeland and Jill Shalvis are two of my favorites and I got to see both of them.
I also hung out with the Sourcebooks crew at the signings and spotlight. BUT that wasn’t all…Sourcebooks always treats their authors to a big fancy dinner and this year was no exception. We were whisked away in a giant party bus and taken to Bryant Park for a delightful outdoor dinner party. It was absolutely wonderful!
I was nominated for a National Readers Choice Award again this year for VAMPIRE TROUBLE but, like last year, I didn’t win. No sad faces over here…being nominated really was an honor.
While this conference is a lot of fun, it’s also exhausting! I’m still trying to catch my breath but I’ve had plenty of energy to count my blessings. I’m a lucky woman and I love my job.
Huge thanks to my readers…without you my stories would simply be words on a page…you make them come to life.
As tired as I was, it was great to be home. My boys gave me big hugs and my fur babies gave me slobbery ones.
Back to the manuscript….
Are you free on Wednesday night and live in the NYC area? Then you should come on by the RWA “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing. Over 450 authors will be in attendance, including yours truly. The 2015 “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing will be on Wednesday, July 22, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the New York Marriott Marquis
in the Westside Ballroom.
This event kicks off the RWA National Conference every year and it is a blast! Every year it seems like there are more and more events to go to but I really have to pick and choose what I attend. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of published authors aren’t rolling in stacks of cash. Therefore, one must choose wisely when deciding where and when to reinvest those hard earned advances and royalty payments.
For me, the RWA conference, will always be on my “must=do” list. The signing is awesome and the parties are great (Thank you Sourcebooks) but being able to connect with my fellow writers is the main reason for attending. Writing is a solitary profession and it’s invigorating to gather with other women who are in the same situation. When I talk about writing/books/industry stuff with my husband or family…their eyes begin to glaze over after about ten minutes. Hey, I get it, this isn’t their bag, man. But at RWA writers are surrounded by fellow writers and everyone there loves talking about writing, plotting, character arcs, promotion, and, well…you get the idea.
Here are some pics from RWA 2014 in San Antonio….
I won’t be able to post here again until after #RWA15 this week but I promise I’ll have lots of pics to share when I return!
