RWA Literacy Signing in NYC- 7/22

Are you free on 11215792_10205279403479515_3785873312509006777_nWednesday night and live in the NYC area? Then you should come on by the RWA “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing. Over 450 authors will be in attendance, including yours truly.  The 2015 “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing will be on Wednesday, July 22, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the New York Marriott Marquis
in the Westside Ballroom.

This event kicks off the RWA National Conference every year and it is a blast! Every year it seems like there are more and more events to go to but I really have to pick and choose what I attend. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of published authors aren’t rolling in stacks of cash. Therefore, one must choose wisely when deciding where and when to reinvest those hard earned advances and royalty payments.

For me, the RWA conference, will always be on my “must=do” list. The signing is awesome and the parties are great (Thank you Sourcebooks) but being able to connect with my fellow writers is the main reason for attending. Writing is a solitary profession and it’s invigorating to gather with other women who are in the same situation. When I talk about writing/books/industry stuff with my husband or family…their eyes begin to glaze over after about ten minutes. Hey, I get it, this isn’t their bag, man. But at RWA writers are surrounded by fellow writers and everyone there loves talking about writing, plotting, character arcs, promotion, and, well…you get the idea.

Here are some pics from RWA 2014 in San Antonio….

Pictures from #RWA14

I am still catching my breath from my trip to San Antonio, Texas for #RWA14! It was a whirlwind adventure as always but it was extra special because my hubby came along–although he artfully avoided be photographed. Thanks to Carolyn Brown’s husband, Mr. B., I have a lot more pictures than usual to share with you. Carolyn’s hubby is by her side at every RWA conference and you will find him with camera in hand. This man can snap some great pictures!

Here’s a shot of the famed Riverwalk–it goes on forever!!!

100_1487There was a lot eating and drinking on this trip!

Mmmmm beer.

First up at the conference was the RWA Literacy Signing. It was tons of fun and I even go to meet one of my street team gals! Molly came by and it was such a thrill to meet her. I also kept myself entertained with #whiteboardwars.

One of the best parts about RWA is connecting with author friends like Robin Covington…

This is a shot of author Carolyn Brown, my editor, Deb Werksman, RITA winning author, Susanna Kearsely, and the owner of Sourcebooks, Dominique Raccah!
100_1595Sourcebooks always treats their authors well but the dinner they throw for us every year at RWA is always an affair to be remembered! First they picked us up at the hotel and brought us to dinner in these huge stretch Hummer limos!

Then for the ride home….they had a whole fleet of Cinderella horse drawn carriages!

100_1588 100_1586Dinner was absolutely amazing and we each had these adorable champagne bottles waiting for us at the tables!

10502354_10152668131280628_8329865042589056326_nSince I knew there would be a lot of good food and booze, I arranged to have Fit Club workouts every morning. Two sessions. 6 am and 6:30am! My editor was the only who made it there with me all 3 mornings at 6 am– but other folks made it for the 6:30!

There was some research time at the San Antonio Firefighters museum. Yes. I know that I’m a dork.10517574_10152667561940628_2181131922765896442_nThen there’s the inevitable time chatting in the lobby….or seeing the sights!
