For those of you who know me, even a little bit, you know I am super close to my family. I am blessed to have loving and supportive parents and siblings but they also happen to super talented as well. I wanted to take a moment to share this article that my sister wrote. Katie is an actress here in NYC and like thousands of others, she’s fighting the good fight. She’s beautiful, talented and smart…and the girl works her butt off! Living and working in NYC can be exhilarating but it can also be soul-sucking. There are countless stories about how nasty New Yorkers can be…but then we hear stories like this one.

Kate wrote a stirringly beautiful article about a “kindness of strangers” experience she recently had on a NYC subway. She originally posted about it on Facebook and was then approached by a blogger at the Huffington Post to write an article for them!

New Goodreads Group!

I love connecting with my readers and as many of you may know, I do that quite a bit on Facebook. However, I have been told by some readers that they’d love to connect more but they don’t use Facebook. That got me thinking. How could I connect with my readers in a forum that’s comfortable and accessible for them?

The answer: Goodreads!

So I’ve created a Goodreads group for my readers. It’s got book trailers, discussion threads and there will certainly be contests there as well. Semi-Finalist #2: Kaylyn-Strong Army Wife!

Hi my name is Kaylyn Davis and my hero wears combat boots not a cape. Yes, I know it is a bit cliché but it is exactly how I feel. My hubby is Staff Sergeant Doyle Davis. He is active duty army and has been for the last 7 ½ years. He is infantry and we are currently stationed in Fort Drum, NY. We got married July 1^st 2006 and on 7^th he left to go to Camp Ederle, Italy. We didn’t get to see each other until Christmas Eve when the army finally paid for me to move to him. Six weeks later I found out I was pregnant and that he would be deploying in May. His deployment was 15 long months, where he missed just about everything. He missed our 1^st and 2^nd anniversaries. He also missed the birth of our daughter, Audree Grace, in September 2007. She was eight days old when she met her daddy. He left 18 days left and then the next time he saw her she was walking and talking. He was there for her 1^st birthday on September 21^st2008 and we were insanely thankful for that.

In July 2009 we left Italy and headed for Fort Drum, NY. He deployed for second time in January 2010 and came back December 21^st 2010. It was the best Christmas present I could have ask for. My daughter loved to say that Santa brought her daddy home as her present because she was that good. Lol! On our 5^th anniversary we realized he had spent 27 months deployed and that half our marriage we have been separated.

He is currently deployed right now but we have hit the half way mark. We were lucky this time and this deployment is 9 months long. This deployment is probably the hardest because now our daughter is old enough to miss him but too young to completely understand why daddy isn’t home. When he left she was in Kindergarten and when he comes home she will be a first grader.

It is hard being married to man whose job is so demanding but he is beyond worth it. He is an amazing father and husband. I am one of the proudest wives ever and I love him so much. Does it suck that he misses so much? Yes it is horrible and hard but it helps us to remember not to take each other for granted. We always say I love you after every conversion and we are still in that newlywed stage. By the time we are starting to get on each others’ nerves he leaves for a month. We stopped counting the important dates he misses and just focus on when he is home.

We will celebrate our 7 year anniversary in July and I wouldn’t trade the life we have built for anything. He is my soul mate and the first person I think of in the mornings and the last person I think about at night. He gave me the best gift ever; the little brunette lying on my back playing with my phone. Every time I miss him I just look at her because she is the spitting image of him except with my attitude.

That is exactly why my hubby fights and why so many other men do as well.

Week #1 Semi-Finalist: Tanya-Proud Army Wife

My name is Tanya and I have been married to SFC Benjamin Rogers for almost 15 years. We have twin daughters, Aliyanah & Skylar, who are 9. My husband is in the Army and we have lived Fort Drum, NY..Schofield Barracks, HI..Fort Leonard Wood, MO…Fort Carson, CO and are currently at Fort Campbell KY. Life as a military spouse is not easy but I take great pride in it. We have been through multiple deployments, with my husband just deploying..again…a few weeks ago. Almost 3 years ago, during a deployment, my husband lost his father. We hoped he would make it stateside before he passed, but he didn’t. This was a game changer for my husband who now embraces every day as another day not promised. He has faced his inner demons and attended Operation Restored Warrior to help with PTSD. He has embraced Christ into his life and our family and we are much stronger for that. This deployment he made sure to see family and talk to loved ones. Our marriage is not perfect but we love our daughters and each other to fight for it. The nights of praying for him melt away when I go to every welcome home ceremony and see him stand proud in his uniform. For that I will gladly stand beside him.

My Super-Quick TODAY Show Interview Finally Aired!

On Mother’s Day I went down to Rockefeller Center in NYC to tape a segment for the TODAY show. Let’s just say it made for an interesting and memorable Mother’s Day. A car picked the boys and I up at the house, which was a treat all by itself.

When we arrived at 30 Rock we got our security badges and were escorted up to the News Nook, which is a tiny room where they tape some interviews.

The boys waited in a little room across the hall to watch me record my piece. Their favorite part was the remote control they were given. It allowed them to freeze the screen they were watching and they proceeded to freeze my expression in all kinds of crazy ways.

On our way out we got to see Dr. Oz’s studio and Jack proceeded to tell the woman guiding us, “All Dr. Oz talks about is poop.”

That’s my boy.

At any rate, the interview was originally supposed to air that Monday but as things go in the news biz, it got scrubbed…until today

They aired it today as part of a larger interview with Jes Baker, a super-fab blogger who posted an outstanding piece–complete with sexy pics–in response to Jeffries.

Must Have Qualities in a Romance Hero

With all the broohaha over my article in the Huffington Post and the backlash I got about the covers of my books, my blog topic at Fresh Fiction today seems oddly appropriate. I’m the middle of the blog tour for UNDONE, the fourth book in my Amoveo Legend series, and today I’m at Fresh Fiction talking about the Top 4 Must Have Qualities in a Romance Hero. Not a single one of my must-haves has anything to do with physical appearance. On a book cover, for my particular genre of romance, hot men are usually what you’ll find as it’s eye catching and will hopefully get a new reader to pick up your book. However, the true heart of a romance hero has little to do with the way he looks. I’ve always said that if a man wants to know how to woo a woman, he should pick up a romance novel or two and it’s not so he can find out how to get in shape.

Even though my heroes are paranormal creatures (shape shifters and vampires) one of the reasons they’re appealing is because they are even more beautiful on the inside. When it comes to physical appearance, we are all attracted to different qualities. However, if what’s inside that pretty wrapper isn’t pretty…well…all bets are off. Have you ever met someone who at first glance was enormously attractive and then as soon as they opened their mouth….not.
