2013–A Hell of a Year

Happy New Year’s Eve!!

With 2013 coming to a close in just a few hours, like a lot of people, I’ve been thinking about the past year. 2013 was a wonderful year for me both personally and professionally.

Personally–I’ve continued to be surrounded by my beautiful family and friends. Everyone has been healthy, safe, and happy. The biggest event in our little family in 2013 was that our oldest son graduated from high school.

I don’t think I stopped grinning for a week. It was crazy to think about how quickly time had flown by. However, beneath that shirt and tie, I could easily see the little boy who loved dinosaurs and trains and if I closed my eyes, I could still hear his little voice from years ago.  He started college in the fall and is already half way through his first year. Time surely does fly right on by.

The three younger boys are growing up just as fast and make me equally proud. I look forward to what 2014 will bring for each of them and can’t wait to cheer them on!

Professionally—I had four books come out this year and it was my first full year working from home as a writer. I don’t make as much money as I did in my day job (yet) but I’m far happier and so is my family.

72796_10151813920330628_544030954_nIt was a thrill to find out at RWA that UNTAMED won 2 PRISM awards. Best of the Best and Dark Paranormal. I couldn’t believe I was a finalist in the contest and didn’t even entertain the idea of winning. Thank goodness my awesome author buds were there with me! It was wonderful to share the excitement with them and I look forward to cheering them on in the future!

The wildest event of 2013 had to be when my Huffington Post article went viral. That was NUTS. I’d fired off an article in response to Mike Jefferies’ comments regarding the Abercrombie marketing platform or only catering to “cool kids”.

I had no idea my article would take off like that! It was liked on FB 166k times and shared 41k+.

Totally wild.

The best part was hearing from various people about how the article inspired them and getting to shoot a segment at the TODAY Show was pretty cool too. The worst part was getting hate mail from people who said I was a hypocrite because my romance novels have hot guys on the cover. This experience also confirmed that there are a LOT of crazy people out there with too much time on their hands. Those people clearly missed the point of my article and I posted my response to the haters HERE.

Needless to say, 2013 has been a wild ride and I look forward to 2104 and all of the possibilities.

May the coming year bring you love, peace, happiness, and success.

Dream on….
